Compositions for my degree
I made all of these pieces in 2009 as part of my final-year composition project for my degree.
Credit Crunch (For Prepared and Smashed Piano)
Features a piano being smashed! Here’s a pic of the aftermath from my write-up…

After I smashed the piano, the sounds and direction were determined from Oblique Strategies, a pack of cards designed by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt. Each card contains phrase or cryptic remark which can be used to break a deadlock or dilemma situation, and I used each one at random to interpret how to move on with the production process.
Read some background info about this piece here, with photos, a score and much more. (It’s interesting, I promise!)
Two more…
Compete
and…
The Sound of Progress
Find out more about these two pieces here - and why I went and recorded the sounds of Leeds commuters and the vibrations of the Humber Bridge…
